Skills for Energy (SfE) are happy to share our new Young Energisers Programme – a free classroom resource designed to develop young people’s skills, whilst raising awareness of the wide range of job opportunities in the energy sector, both now and in the future, to help increase diversity within it.
Developed for year 8 students, SfE have created four interactive, energy-based classroom challenges based on Renewables, Nuclear, Oil & Gas and Emergency Response, working alongside both industry experts and careers leaders to ensure the students receive the most up-to-date knowledge on the industry, whilst also ensuring the activities are aligned with the CDI careers framework and the Gatsby Benchmarks.
The activities include introductions to each sector, highlighting the variety of suitable skills and the different opportunities found within them. This is then followed by an interactive, group activity; designing wind turbines to test blade efficiency, creating electricity pylons to test forces, designing and building a prototype Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) or completing a classroom tabletop exercise.
